Heart Valve Surgery Case Reports is a procedure to treat heart valve disease. At least one of the four heart valves is malfunctioning in heart valve disease. The proper direction of blood flow through the heart is maintained by heart valves. A surgeon performs heart valve surgery to replace or repair a sick or damaged heart valve or valves. Heart valve replacement or repair can be accomplished by a variety of surgical techniques, such as open heart surgery or minimally invasive heart surgery. The tricuspid valve, aortic valve, pulmonary valve, and mitral valve are the four heart valves. Every valve has flaps that are referred to as cusps for the aortic and pulmonary valves and leaflets for the mitral and tricuspid valves. Every heartbeat should cause these flaps to open and close once. Blood flow from the heart to the body is disrupted by malfunctioning valves.
